A message by the Principal on
‘Swami Vivekanand’ on ‘National Youth Day’
“Education is the manifestation of perfection already in men”
– Swami Vivekanand.
One believes that education in true sense should be able to guide a person to grow into a confident individual with good sense of self-respect and ethics.
Man, by birth is a social animal and education is the most vital tool that turns him into a human being, making him the most specialised creation of Almighty not just because of his appearance but because of what he creates, how he comprehends. Thus education is a tool by virtue of which harmonious development of body, mind and soul takes place and education is considered to be synonymous to school. Education is not accumulation of information stored into the brain of a learner that runs riot there undigested all through the life but a process by which character of a person is groomed, strength of the mind is enhanced and intellect is sharpened, as a result of which an individual grows into ethically strong and confident personality, capable of researching, comprehending and taking right decisions at the right time.
School education is not about the amount of thick books and pressure of completing homework, class work, project work and scoring high percentage but it is a comprehensive training for life where bookish knowledge take a back seat ; it the skills and the values that one has learnt plays a vital role in having a successful and satisfying life and be instrumental in inspiring others.
Swamiji emphasised on the environment at home and at school for proper growth of a child. Explaining the the meaning of ‘Association ‘ he said….”A rain drop from the sky: if it is caught by clean hands, is pure enough for drinking. If it falls in the gutter, it’s value drops so much that it can’t be used even for washing your feet. If it falls on a hot surface, it will evaporate…..If it falls on a lotus leaf, it shines like a pearl and finally, if it falls on oyster, it becomes a pearl….The drop is the same, but its existence & worth depends on whom it is associated with.
On the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s Birth Anniversary which is also celebrated as “National Youth Day”, let us offer our heart felt prayers to the great son of India who comprehended importance of training the students in Physical Culture, aesthetics, classics, language, science and technology many years ago, which we all are striving to do for our children today, who ruled the hearts of foreigners with his modern and noble thoughts and continues to do so even today.
He advocated the system, where the teacher invokes the spirit of inquiry in the pupil who is supposed to find out things for himself under the bias-free guidance of the guide.
Nation awaits for many more “Vivekanands”. Do you have one in the neighbourhood or at home or are you the one?”
